Hello! I’m Charlotte Bartle-McDaniel, a fourth-year PhD researcher in English Literature at the University of Wolverhampton, based in the School of Humanities and part of the Centre for Transnational and Transcultural Research.
My work explores representations of mourning and memorialising through hair in Anglo-American nineteenth-century and neo-Victorian literature and culture.
I’m passionate about making academic work accessible and inclusive — both within and beyond the university. This site is a space to share my research, reflections, and resources in a way that invites curiosity, encourages connection, and welcomes readers from all walks of life. I’m especially interested in public engagement, inclusive education, and finding creative ways to connect people with the past — including through local history and heritage work.
On this site, you’ll find:
- About Me – more about my academic journey and research interests
- Research – current projects and areas of focus
- Talks, Teaching, & Writing – conference papers, outreach and teaching work, and works in progress
- The Reading Room – more polished writing and research directly related to my project
- The Cabinet of Curiosities – informal posts, reflections, and scholarly oddments
- CV & Research Poster – my academic CV and a downloadable research poster summarising my current project

Whether you’re a fellow academic, a curious reader, or simply here for a little literary wandering — you’re very welcome.
